Augustus Octavius shed his filthy coat and let it slough into the corner.  He stretched, interlocking his fingers above his head and producing several disturbing popping noises in his back, which echoed around his cabin aboard the Retribution of Mankind.

“Jules, come in here please.”  He said, loudly enough to be heard through the door.  Jules entered a few seconds later.  “Have a seat.”  Octavius motioned to a small folding chair.  Jules, looking confused, set up the chair as Octavius grabbed two highball glasses from the cabinet.  He set them down on the desk, crumpling errant papers here and there, and reached for a tall maroon tumbler.  He unstoppered it, sniffed it gingerly, and poured two fingers of amasec into each glass.  He handed one to Jules, and raised his glass as if to toast.  Jules hesitated, but finally grabbed his glass, and clinked it against Octavius’, souding a clear crystalline note.  Octavius spoke the line he always spoke after defeating the forces of Chaos.

“To a job well done.”
