Vergil checked the course of the Ardent Storm once again.  He had lost count of the checks and re-checks to the flight path.  If only he could see a way to make up an hour here, or a day there.  But the course was optimal.  Again.  He sighed, and gritted his teeth.  The traitors fled to the Chasma Spica, and the Blood Angels would follow them wherever they fled.  They would know retribution for the despoiling of Pharius III.  He prayed for speed.  Every second of the traitors’ lead on them could mean the difference between victory and death.  Vergil wondered what he could have done.  He could have abandoned the refugees.  No, that would be cowardly.  An insult to duty and honor.  No Blood Angel worth the name would ever do that.  And so, duty had waylaid him, and the traitors would be in the Chasma Spica for weeks before the Blood Angels arrived.

He shuffled the papers on his desk and found the transcript from the Inquisitor.  Odd that a distress call would come when Vergil was already on his way.  It did not take a Calculus Logi to see that the traitors’ estimated flight path took them right to this Chasma Spica, where other foul forces of the Archenemy of Mankind gathered.  No, this was no coincidence.  Pharius III was just a skirmish.  The final showdown between his Blood Angels 8th Company and the foul Night Lords would be fought on Iperin.  He picked up the data slate with their course and began to study it again.  He promised himself it would be the last time.
