Perseus looked on in both appreciation and horror.  The screams the twisted tree emitted were incredibly disturbing, but he forced himself to watch.  Azure Flames Marines poured brightly burning promethium into the base of the tree, and it writhed in agony.  Soon it would be nothing but cinders.  Such an abomination could not be allowed to persist, especially now.  Perseus turned to Piers.

“Brother Piers, how goes the cleansing of the planet?”

“Well, my lord.”  Piers answered.  “The Ork Roks will take time to clear, and cost dearly.  We will never be rid of the filthy xenos, but the Archenemy forces have all fled.  Without the sword to unite them, there was no reason to stay.”

“…good.  Assemble what is left of the chapter on Iperin, and contact all other Azure Flames in the Chasma Spica.  Have the 4th and 8th  companies convene with us here on Iperin after Juilus has been secured.  I will address the chapter here.  They must hear the news from me.”

Piers clapped him on the shoulder.  “You made a good Chapter Master after Atrus’ interment.  You will lead us well now.”

Perseus smiled.  “Thank you, Piers.  But we all know that no one can replace Atrus.  He led us was we wandered the stars.  He gave us the purpose to protect the Emperor from the threat he foresaw.  Now that purpose is fulfilled.  Our quest is over.”

“Do you mean…?”

“Yes, Piers.  We will wander no more.  We have come home.”
