“Sir! Incoming message from extreme range. Markers check out, it’s Imperial.” Someone shouted.
“Put it through.” Dakota answered. Hope swelled his chest. Perhaps this task was not doomed after all. The screen revealed a pale skinned man wearing black armour.
“I am Chaplain Muninn, commanding officer of the Raven Guard Chasma Spica expedition force.”
“Welcome to the CZ 184 system, Chaplain. I am Captain Dakota of the Azure Flames 6th company. Two other strike cruisers are patrolling various parts of this system. We would appreciate your help in securing this system for any other reinforcements that will come later.”
“I am sorry to disappoint you, Captain, but our reports have identified the entry point of the main Imperial fleet as the Julius system.”
“Then why have you come here?” Dakota asked.
“We were dispatched as soon as we received the distress call. We only received reports of other Imperial forces en route.”
“That is very bad news indeed, Brother Muninn.” Puzzlement flashed across Muninn’s face.
“Why is that, Captain?”
“Because no one in our fleet has received a reply. Before, we thought no help would come. Now we know we are being jammed…”
“…and the traitors that jammed you let the distress call through because they wanted help to arrive.” Muninn finished. “Emperor help us all.”
